Peace Portrait Collection
The rose travels everywhere with Robertson. “You never know when the perfect opportunity or person will appear”, he says. Some portraits are planned, like His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the Governor General, but most portraits are taken while traveling when opportune moments present themselves with people and place.
Intentionally letting flow guide him on his travels, Robertson orients towards a place, or general area and often doesn’t even books accommodation.
He does not use a light, flash, reflector or (usually) a tripod. The raw nature of a minimalist approach creates creative friction in the moment for portraits where there is often just one quick opportunity to capture the subject, even for the most important of portraits. Available light and his trusty Leica are all that he has.
